Matt Bailey’s Guide to AI-Powered SEO Content Creation
Matt Bailey walks through a systematic AI workflow for beating writer's block and creating search-optimized content at scale.
The method starts with competitive teardown using ChatGPT to extract titles, headers, and keyword focus from the top 20 ranking pages, then organizes these insights by topic to ensure topical coverage and expertise signals.
Once the competitive landscape is mapped, creators choose between two paths: generating an article outline with H1–H3 structure and FAQs, or requesting a full HTML draft with markup for faster turnaround.
SE Ranking's Content Editor then scores the draft in real time against keyword density, E-E-A-T signals, and on-page best practices.
Bailey emphasizes that AI augments human judgment rather than replacing it, and that all generated content must be thoroughly fact-checked and edited before publishing.
If you've ever experienced SEO writer's block, staring at a blank page title, headline, or blog post, this is for you. Hello, my name is Matt Bailey, and I have been an SEO for over 30 years, and I am an active SE Ranking user. I'm going to show you how to use AI to jumpstart your article ideas. Now, you may get a little queasy at using AI to write your content, and that's okay. It means that you value high-quality content and respect your visitors and your craft, which is the best place to start. First, what distinguishes real SEO and content development is avoiding the AI generated slot shortcuts that many people will use. Those pages won't rank long, and if they do, they won't bring value. They're a waste of resources. Second, the primary goal of using AI with content and according to Google's policy is to create content
that is helpful and educational. It meets the EA expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. The best way to do this is to improve and enhance workflow strategies that support your knowledge and judgment, not replace it. Here's the goal. It's not just to get rankings, but to create content that increases visibility, drives clicks, and drives business results, which is the true measurement of SEO. Before AI, SEO professionals would create spreadsheets of top ranking competitor pages. Breaking out the page titles, headings, alt attributes, and other content by comparing and evaluating competitor content and SEO could formulate a plan to build their content pages to compete. Now with AI, this one-time intensive step is reduced to mere moments. You can do this in Chat GPT, any AI tool, and in SE Ranking. Now,
first develop your prompt to outline the top one to five ranking pages for a keyword. Highlight the emphasis on focus keywords as they are used in titles, descriptions, headings, and overall page focus. Ask the AI to create a report for you. Go ahead, pause the video and try this with some of the prompts that I've included. After this, you can take an additional step of asking the AI to create summaries of the content on each page, not just the headings, because this data is great for keyword and topical research. Now, widen your research to include the top 10, maybe even the top 20 ranking websites. I like to break up these two steps as I want to find consistency in the top pages and then work into the rest. By now, you should have a substantial report on each competitor's page content. And now we pull back at this information and look at it from another angle. We can ask for the top 10 ranking pages, 20 ranking pages by their page titles, but grouped by
topic. You'll find that not every page approaches the title tag the same way and you can get a sense of how competitors are addressing the topic. Then I do this with the H1s and I usually will ask the AI to organize these by topic or structure. And this is where you make sure that you have good topical coverage. That means that you address the central idea. You also have the related topics that support the main idea. But really, it's about showing expertise in your field. Repeat this step by requesting and evaluating the H2 headings, giving you even more in-depth intelligence about the subject matter and how it's treated on competitor pages. Now, before we take the next step, this is important. It's the purpose of your page. Is this informational page, a transactional page, a lead magnet? How are you using the page? The content you develop and the structure of the page should reflect its purpose. So, based on the purpose, what elements do you need to include? what calls to action or maybe a single call to action should be included. Is this page part of
a larger topic? And does it need to be interlink or ordered into an index? And then what do you want people to do when they come to the page? What progression elements are necessary to draw visitors to that next step? Once you've identified the purpose, placement, and progression, begin the next steps of content outlining and development. There are two paths that you can take here based on your comfort and competence with AI. The first option is to ask for an article outline based on the websites within a specific topic outlining the H1 headings, H2 topics, and H3 subheadings. You can create an amazing outline based on your ranking competitors to create a great article structure for your website. Now, you can do this with any AI tool or within SE Ranking. The advantage of SE Rankings content editor is that it enables you to make selections within the research process, including or excluding the topics that you want to cover in this page. You can also
develop an article brief that outlines the page for clear detailed copywriting instructions. The next option is to ask for a completely generated article. prompt for the article in HTML markup with the title, descriptions, headings, topics, subheadings, and bullet points. You've already created the brief if you use SE Ranking's Content Editor. From the brief, you can handwrite it or you can ask for page generation along with the markup. What I like about the content editor is it has scoring functions to track the keyword usage and other areas of feedback that will guide your development. Now, I can't end this video without a word of caution. You had better be knowledgeable about your topic. Otherwise, you might be responsible for uploading wrong, incorrect, or misleading information. Anytime that you use AI to fully generate an article, you must proof and edit the result. Now, it's your turn. Start with your new tools that distill and analyze the top ranking
sites and their content structures. Build out a few structures with titles and headings already planned out for you. See how that works. You'll never stare at a blank blinking cursor again.
