If Google Killed Rankings Tomorrow, What Survives?
If Google switched to AI-only answers overnight, what parts of SEO strategy would endure?
Experts argue that foundational SEO practices would survive because they have worked since before AI search.
Schema markup emerges as critical infrastructure, functioning as a data layer and control point for content understanding, with research showing it can address AI hallucinations and guide AI systems toward factual accuracy.
Beyond technical implementation, quality content, writing for audience intent, and multimedia strategy—particularly video and YouTube—remain essential in an AI-driven search landscape.
If Google removed all organic listings, all organic rankings tomorrow, and switched to full AI answers, what part of your SEO strategy would survive? All of it, cuz we've been doing the right things since before AI search. You know, like these things are getting more of a platform right now because just making content and just building links is no longer, you know, cutting it. And so people are starting to like go more in the direction that we've already been. So I think we're good. Like schema markup, like it's your data layer, like it's like Come on, but like seriously, right? Like it's like I know I'm the schema markup gal, right? But honestly, like it's your control point for understanding, and there's so much research and indications of that. You know, I shared today a case study around like how it solves hallucinations. This morning, Microsoft talked about like it being like the steering wheel to like give it guidance on like what is truth about the content. So it's not just because I run schema app, it's cuz like I really do you
think. Oh, you've seen you've seen the evidence, I've seen the evidence. Right. So you're actually further ahead than most SEOs. No, I'm not I'm not grandstanding here because I mean SEOs have to have this level of adoption, right? >> Yeah. It's more than rich results, right? Like this is like truly translating your content to be understood. >> Absolutely. >> Yeah, the content, just good good content. And writing through ICP is literally what we do. It's just marketing. So it's still marketing. Keep doing it. Uh so keep doing it. Um and then do a lot of the things that the wonderful folks are talking about here. I was a big fan of Cindy Krum's talk at SMX about uh YouTube and video. It's just like the evolution of it. You're going to be feeding the beast there in a lot of different ways. [music] >> Exactly. Big fan.
